West NileReturn to index of stories... |
On the same day that a seventy-one-year-old Georgia woman died from the West Nile Virus, the prediction by state officials that it would arrive soon in New Hampshire has come true. Public health officials say the virus has been found in two dead crows - in Salem and Rollinsford. Those birds were the first out of 400 others to test positive so far this year. West Nile - which is transmitted by mosquitoes - can infect people - but those occurances are relatively low. People who do get the virus typically experience mild flu-like symptoms or - in some cases - no symptoms at all.The elderly and young are most at risk for serious complications from West Nile. |
